Holiday Message from Mirembe Words of Wisdom

Dear Board of Directors, Friends, Sponsors, and Visitors,

Welcome to the Mirembe Words of Wisdom website. As we conclude 2024 and enter the holiday season, we have much to celebrate and be grateful for.

The work accomplished this year to serve the needs of over 14,000 children enrolled in our program has been immensely rewarding and full of promise. We are grateful to the volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to this program, our school partners and local community leaders, The parents and children who trust in the possibilities created by promoting a culture of readers.

In 2024, Mirembe Words of Wisdom achieved so much and opened many doors for children, adults, and communities. We are grateful to everyone who makes our mission and vision possible as we close this year and look forward to the next.

We also look forward to sharing with you highlights of 2024, and aspirations for 2025.

Warm regards,

Yvonne Ssempijja

Mirembe Words of Wisdom Reading Program helps boost the literacy rate of students in the Central Region of Uganda by offering a mobile library that delivers books.

After carefully guided conversations with local communities, we reached a collective decision on basic ways to improve education outcomes for the region. Fostering a Reading culture was a pathway we chose. The task was to build collaboration and partnerships wit local primary schools as well as the families and communities they serve. At the March School Meeting, students learned where some former reading materials of ours have traveled. A native Ugandan who has lived in the States for thirty years brought them to the central part of the country, near Mityana. She set up a mobile check out system and students from twelve schools are enjoying them immensely.
