On May 18th Kkande Primary School piloted a vegetable garden as part of the Nutrition Program. The students participated in preparing the land for planting, planted vegetables, collards, and green onions. For 2 months, students cared for their gardens weeding and watering. Students learned and prepared organic pesticide and fertilizers.

On August 15th, the vegetables were ready, the whole school participated in the harvest and preparation of the meal. There was jubilation and celebration as kids enjoyed the food they grew.

The Mirembe Words of Wisdom Children’s Garden & Nutrition initiative allows junior primary school 4-to-14-year-old students to learn about agriculture and nutrition. They are divided into teams that help clear the land, plant seeds, and take turns watering and caring for the garden. The children will be documenting their observation as they care for their gardens. Please check back to see future updates on the garden.
