Who We Are

The reading program was the implementation format through which our mission and vision were created with the sole purpose of increasing literacy both in terms of interest, motivation and ultimate outcome so that the students in law resource communities can use this medium to advance their knowledge capacity to a limitless platform.

Over the last 5-6 years, as we have followed and monitored the Mirembe Words of Wisdom program core components, we have materialized the glimpse of possibilities inherent in the child’s capacity to read. Reading is the love of deeper knowledge and always remaining curious and unsatisfiable/satisfied explorer for knowledge. As testimony to the success of this effort, in 2019/2020, we had about 700 students in a very localized area.

First forward into now, as of end of April 2023, the program supports over 10,000 students, spread across 33 schools in various districts of Uganda.

By dedicating ourselves to nurturing avid readers, we are committing to using the medium of reading as a key to knowledge and a performance stage where the spark of learning is ignited. For a long time, we have been promoting literacy and wellness at the local level in rural Uganda, and now at the global level through different interrelationships that we have built.

Mission: To create a culture of reading that advances the education, health, literacy and well-being of children in rural villages in Uganda by providing donated books to schools and access to libraries.

Vision: Through this action, Literacy motivates a desire for education, which promotes preparedness for school and sustains the energy necessary to improve educational outcomes for the individual child, the parents, and the supporting and surrounding communities.

Core Objectives

  1. Build the Mirembe Words of Wisdom brand that includes literacy as a launching pad for other core services
  2. Solicit donations to increase the quantity of new and used books
  3. Heighten accessibility to knowledge by partnering with local brick & mortar and mobile libraries in the region to spread knowledge and continue increasing the literacy rate throughout the region and beyond as books are shared.
  4. Alter perceptions that accessibility to books and education is impossible and create new approaches to reach remote areas in the region and beyond.
  5. Partner with schools and create reading programs in the region by increasing relationship with schools in Mityana District, and continue to share inventory with these institutions thus motivating more collaborations with Mirembe Words of Wisdom in other parts of Uganda
  6. Grow and strengthen relationships with community that will aid in building a strong literacy program and cultivate knowledge through reading and other core services
  7. Deliver and disperse books across both physical and digital touch-points, ensuring the process is efficient across all channels, and providing the maximum impact for school children and their quest for knowledge through reading.
